In Loving Memory

Richard "Dick" Wayne Lewis

Richard "Dick" Wayne Lewis, a 15-year Addy, WA resident, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2022.  He was born in Everett, WA on January 18, 1947 to Donald and Maxine (Peck) Lewis.

Dick was the oldest son, his brother, Dan would arrive a few years later. They were raised in Arlington, WA area, to be more specific, on his parents' homestead on Lake Ki.  Dick loved to wrench on cars so it was no surprise that after graduating from Arlington High School with the class of 1964, he began building a hot rod using only the cab as his starting point.  In just over a year, he had completed his street legal creation.  Dick was a gifted mechanic and not long after graduating, he enlisted into the United States Air Force where he put his talent to good use keeping countless numbers of aircraft flight ready.  He was honorably discharged in 1969.

Dick came back to Snohomish County where he owned and operated a small gas/service station in Everett.  During the oil embargo of 1973, it made it nearly impossible for him to keep his doors open and had to close down.  He went to work for Snohomish County as a shop mechanic where he stayed for about 4 years until Dick and his brother Dan decided to go into business for themselves.  In 1976, they did just that and began their own logging business.  A few years later Dick would meet his first wife, Jacquelyn, and they would welcome two wonderful boys, Derek and Daryn.  They would eventually divorce but remained friends.

Sometime in 1990, Dick started league bowling at Twin City Lanes in Stanwood, WA and that is where he met Vernitta.  The two of them hit it off right from the get go and on November 17, 1990, the two wed at the Camano Chapel on Camano Island, WA.  Vernitta would bring to their union a daughter, Tracy, to complete their family.  Dick and the family loved to travel together visiting such destinations as Hawaii, Mexico and stops all across the U.S.  Dick loved spending time outdoors, especially in the woods.  He loved going on hunting trips with his brother and his sons.  In 1992 they bought property in Addy, WA and would come over often.

Dick finally retired in 2006 when he and Vernitta moved to their property permanently.  He loved spending time feeding and watching the wildlife that would come onto his property.  Dick enjoyed helping other people and was often called upon as the neighborhood handyman.  He loved going to the State B basketball tournaments and cheering on his granddaughters.  Dick had a love of many hobbies and activities, but paramount to them all was his love for his family.  He will be sorely missed by those that knew him well.

He is survived by his wife Vernitta, sons Derek (Lisa) Lewis from Wenatchee and Daryn (Amy) Lewis from Arlington and daughter Tracy (Bruce) James from LaConner; brother Dan (Pam) Lewis of Stanwood; grandchildren Kyle (Olivia) Bailey of LaConner, Raven Edwards, Dayton Lewis, Aleya Lewis, Davin Lewis, Duke Lewis; 3 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Brooklyn, and Eliza Bailey of LaConner
