Obituary

David "Dave" Arthur Dashiell, age 66, a longtime resident of the Hunters, WA area, passed away on June 9, 2023 at his home.  Dave was born on July 28, 1956 in Colville, WA the son of Ernest and Shirley (Nicholson) Dashiell.

He was raised in the Hunters, WA where he learned the value of a hard day's work while growing up on the family ranch.  Dave was on the Columbia High School Football team and was an officer in the ASB.  He graduated as a 12-year senior from Columbia High School in 1974 and then moved to Spokane where he attended Spokane Community College.  He was a member of the Spokane Community College Rodeo Team as a Bareback and Bull Rider on the Washington Rodeo Association Circuit.  Dave met Julie L. McCoury at the Springdale Rodeo in 1982.  They began dating and two years later, on Aug. 18, 1984, exchanged wedding vows in Spokane, WA.  They began a lifetime of ranching and raising a family together.  They would summer their cattle and sheep in Hunters and then move to the basin in the winter.  They resided in the basin communities of Moses Lake, Warden and Eltopia throughout the years.  At the peak of their ranching, Dave and Julie raised over 1200 Ewes and 300 Cattle until taking a devastating reduction in their heard by wolves.   Dave had a passion for ranching and found joy in 7-day work weeks.  He especially enjoyed working the ranch on horseback and road trips to the Mile City Ram Sale and various bull sales.  Acres of brush were cleared and miles of fence posts were pounded in place by hand.  Dave's enjoyed the hard work but in recent years, relished in his airconditioned skid steers ability to do this all with ease.

Dave and Julie traveled to Mt. Rushmore (Keystone, SD), Cheyenne, WY, and Alaska.  He was a quiet man who spoke with purpose and intent.  Dave was an avid reader of old westerns and writing of the World Wars with historical value.  He found old texts of interest in antique shops and old book stores.  His taste in music was much to same, old west classics and conservative talk radio.  He and Julie worked side-by-side for nearly 40 years and shared in love, friendship, ranching, raising a family and a good life.  His family reflected about Dave saying simply… he was very good man.

Dave was active in many ranching organizations throughout the years to include, CPOW, Stevens Co. Cattlemen's, RCALF…  He also supported the young ranchers as a superintendent of the Beef and Dairy Barn at the Hunters Fair.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Dashiell.

Dave is survived by his wife, Julie Dashiell, at the home; daughters, Tanna Skidmore of Hunters and Odessa, WA, Josslinn Schoesler (Cody) of Ritzville, WA; brother, Don Dashiell (Glenda) of Cedonia, Bill Dashiell of Colville, WA; sister, Doris Erickson (Dale) of Cedonia, WA; a granddaughter, Macy Schoesler; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
