Daniel "Dan" Charles Harshman, age 64, a longtime resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on December 19, 2024 in Spokane, WA.  Dan was born on June 10, 1960 in Medford, OR the son of Edmund Paul and Margaret Edith (Heaven) Harshman.

Dan was raised in the Eugene and Springfield, Oregon communities where he attended school and graduated from Springfield High School in 1978.  Dan then continued his education at the University of Oregon.  In 1983, he earned his bachelor's degree in Economics.  Dan then moved to California where he entered into a master's program.  He returned to Oregon before completing his masters. In 1986, he then moved to join his family on their homestead outside of Chewelah, WA.  He began working with his cousin Bob Playfair, learning to log and care for the forest lands of the "Rafter 7 Ranch" tree farm.  Dan had an incredible intellect and within a short time, was helping to shape the future of the tree farm through his continued learning.  He became an integral part of the tree farm and logging operation.  Dan, his father Ed and brother Tom formed Harshman and Sons Timber Company, specializing in stewardship management of their own family forest.

His love for the written word was a passion developed from hard work, due to his dyslexia, and the ability to retain the smallest details he learned auditorily.  Daniel had written two unpublished novels and volumes of poetry.  His poetry had a beautiful depth and breadth that was described as quite "powerful".  His gift as an artist expanded from the pen to the brush as a self-taught painter.  Dan desired to be the foundation for those he loved and to provide strength during life's ebb and flow.  Dan was a good man, a wonderful storyteller, and had a soul of determination and kindness.  He was known for his very quick wit and loved making people laugh.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Edie (Margaret) Harshman, as well as his brother Tom Harshman.

He is survived by a host of extended family including, the Bob Playfair family, Thelma Fry, Kent Williamson, Keith and Kassie Brown, Cheyenne Bray, Barb and Dan Jeanneret, Virginia and Brian Culler, Ralph Wright, Kevin Wright and Debbie Playfair; Ex-wife and lifelong friend, Jana Estrada. As well as his dear friends and caregivers from Chesterfield Services who gave Dan many years of comfort and care.
