Conrad "Sonny" Lloyd Nelson
Conrad "Sonny" Lloyd Nelson, age 87, a 28-year resident in the Addy, WA area passed away on May 19, 2024 at his Addy, WA, home. Sonny was born on November 14, 1936 in Nebraska City, NE the son of Lloyd and Helen (Badberg) Nelson.
As a young boy, his moved to the Tri-Cities, WA area where he attended school. Sonny graduated from Pasco High in Burbank, WA. Throughout his early years, Sonny loved to work on cars. Beginning in high school, Sonny turned wrenches at the Little Chief gas station and then the Johnny Beck station. He loved to ride motorcycles. Sonny had some old-school Harley Davidson's that he loved to ride. He also had dirt-bikes on which he would explore the mountains which was his passion. In 1963, Sonny began working at the Boise Cascade Papermill. He worked the majority of those years as a refiner-man. During the later part of his career, Sonny worked as the supervisor for the water treatment of the plant. He retired after 33 years at the age of 59. He resided in Kennewick, WA where he married Myrna and they had two sons, Danny and Curtis. Sonny later divorced and remarried Kay. Darrin, Sonny's third son, was then welcomed into their growing family. Sonny would marry a third and final time to Tommy. She brought 4 children to their family. Sonny had spent many of his days off traveling to Addy, WA where he enjoyed working on the cabin to which they would retire. They left Pasco in 1996, and began retirement at the Addy cabin.
Sonny enjoyed hosting neighborhood get-togethers during his retirement years and was always willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. His passion was fishing and Sonny spent as many available hours as possible fishing for trout and walleye on the Columbia River. Sonny also enjoyed the outdoors and the miles on foot traveled hunting grouse, ducks, geese, pheasants, deer and elk.
Sonny was a man of values and he stood strong in what he believed. He offered friendship and kindness, as well as, a cold beer and conversation for those who came to visit. His friendships were lifelong and given his heart of gold.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bonnie and Donna.
He is survived by his three sons, Danny, Curtis and Darrin Nelson, his step-children, Bobbie Martinolich, Tony Martinolich, Dominic Martinolich, and Tommy Marie Martinolich, and numerous nieces and nephews.
