Obituary

Clarence "Larry" Allen, age 79, a longtime resident of the Colville, WA area, passed away on February 6, 2024 surrounded by family in their home.  Larry was born on November 10, 1944 in Houston, TX the son of C.C. and Bettie Louise (White) Allen.

He was raised in Houston, TX where he attended school and graduated in 1962.  Larry then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Seattle, WA until 1966.  While in Seattle, he met Cheri Belle Amos at a Coast Guard gathering.   They exchanged vows and welcomed their first born, Sean into the family.  Following Larry's honorable discharge, they moved to Texas where they resided in the communities of Corpus Cristi and Crockett.  While in Texas their family grew with the births of Larry and Brian.  They then moved to Kellogg, ID where Larry worked in the Bunker Hill, Star and Hecla mines.  They welcomed the birth of their fourth child, Tina while in Kellogg.  Larry volunteered as a service officer with the Kellogg Police Department for several years.  He and Cheri ended their marriage in 1977.  Larry then moved to Northport, WA and eventually Colville in 1989 with his wife, Shirlee F. (Berryman).  They resided in the Aladdin Valley and Larry worked at Alcoa until its closure.  He then began driving truck for Colville Valley Asphalt & Paving until retirement.

Larry enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing the local streams and riding horseback in the mountains.  He was a man set in his ways with a bit of stubborn as well.  He had a knack for fixing things and enjoyed tinkering on fix-it projects of his own and for his family.  He also took great pride in his vehicles and rarely were they anything less than spotless.  Larry has a heart of gold that was covered in a gruff exterior.  Some of his favorite time was watching, holding, and creating smiles on the faces of his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlee on Feb. 26, 2006.

He is survived by his four children; Sean Allen (Teresa) of Wenatchee, WA, Larry Allen (Diana) of Colville, WA, Brian Allen of Hayden, ID and Tina Moore (Mike) of Kettle Falls, WA; his twin sisters, Claudine Moore and Lorraine Reynolds of Houston, TX, sister, LaDelle of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Alisha Mininger, Tayler Allen, Joseph Allen, Brooke Allen, Mitchell Allen and Gavin Allen; 1 great grandchild, Nerissa Allen.
