Charles "Chuck"
Hughes Fell
Oct 1, 1947 — Oct 8, 2016
Charles Hughes Fell, known to most as Chuck, passed away on October 8, 2016 in Spokane, WA at the age of 69. Chuck was born October 1, 1947 in Alpena, Michigan. The oldest of four children born to Richard and Patricia Fell.
Chuck spent much of his childhood is South Eastern Michigan. He graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1965 and enlisted in the Navy. Following two tours of duty in Vietnam, Chuck returned to Michigan and began an apprenticeship at General Motors, Truck and Coach. In 1975 he married the love of his life, Judy and became a father to her two young sons. In 1977 they welcomed a daughter, Shannon. Shortly after, they took their family to California to embark on a new adventure. They settled in Visalia, California, where they spent the next ten years raising their family. In the late 80's Chuck became acquainted with what would become another of his great loves, Bodie State Park. For the next twenty years he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor and Restoration Specialist for the State of California, Parks and Recreation, with his main focus being to maintain the historic buildings of Bodie. Chuck often felt that he had been called to discover the amazing beauty of the Eastern Sierras and relished every minute of it. In 2009, Chuck retired from State Parks and he and Judy moved to Chewelah where he became actively involved in the Chewelah Food Bank and the Colville Gun Club. In his retirement, Chuck spent most of his time in his shop creating art out of wood. He had the honor of sharing his woodcraft with others through the artist co-op, Pottery Place Plus in Spokane. When not in his shop, Chuck could be found riding his bike, shooting trap, kayaking and walking his trusty dog, Boots.
If you knew Chuck, you certainly would have considered yourself lucky. He was the kind of guy who always had a smile on his face and a jovial word to say. Often speaking in funny sayings, you could clearly see the authentic person he was. He loved his life, finding constant joy in his family, friends and the beauty he surrounded himself with. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Aaron.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy; his children, Tony and Terri of Visalia, California and Shannon of Spokane, WA; and his five grandsons; Alex, Nicholas, Aaron, Tucker and Jackson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chewelah Senior Center. Chuck had a fondness for Hawaiian shirts, no matter the season, so please join us in wearing one. If one wishes, memorial contributions may be given to the Bodie Foundation.Sunday
