Obituary

Catherine Helen Lang, age 78, a longtime resident of Colville, WA, passed away on Oct. 27, 2026 in Colville, WA. Cathy was born on April 16, 1948 in Spokane, WA the daughter of Jack and Janice (Ousley) Perry.

Cathy was raised in Spokane where she attended school and finished high school in 1966. She married Al K. Lang and they began raising their family. Cathy and Al resided in Newport, WA for a short period of time. They then moved to Colville and their family continued to grow. Cathy started working at Newland’s Café as a waitress. She also worked briefly at Benny’s Hotel. She had a passion for working with animals and worked at Colville Veterinary Clinic for approximately seven years. After she left the Veterinary Clinic, Cathy worked for Sara Lee Pille at the Road House Restaurant. Cathy also worked for the Colville School District and held titles such as Paraeducator and Behavioral Specialist for many years. She had a passion for working with children with disabilities and behaviors. She also enjoyed working for the school as she had the opportunity to have summers off and spend time with her children. Her summers included relaxing in the sun, drinking green kool-aid and swimming at Bradbury Beach. Cathy spent lots of summers traveling all over the world. After she retired from the school district she began working as an Esthetician. Cathy retired a second time and poured her love and attention into her grandchildren. In addition to having several jobs over the years, Cathy spent time raising children, crocheting, quilting, embordering, gardening, and filling a root cellar with canned goods for the winter months. Cathy had a remarkable talent for genealogical research, uncovering family histories, tracing generations, and piecing together the stories of her ancestors. In 2019, Cathy and Al moved permanently to their summer cabin in Post Falls, ID. They returned home in 2023 to Colville to spend more time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cathy’s said her greatest accomplishment was being a Mother and Nana. She loved to shop and had countless craft projects started but some not yet completed. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Cathy and Al canned the garden harvest for winter and no one left their table hungry. Cathy loved to care for people who were troubled and needed hugs and uplifting hand. She was outgoing, happy and created smiles and laughter with her sense of humor and jokes. On occasion she would offer a touch of sass to her character, but then follow with her renowned hugs and abundant love. Cathy was anchored in the love of her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt.

Cathy was preceded in death by Jack Perry (father), Janice Ousley (mother), Frank Johnson (step-father), Bruce Ousley (step-father), Albert and Minnie Lang (father in-law and mother in-law), Carrie Ann Miller (niece) and Emily Rainy Lang (granddaughter).
