In Loving Memory

Carroll Howard "Whitty" Whitten Jr.

Carroll Howard "Whitty" Whitten Jr, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023.  Whitty was born on August 30, 1929 to Carroll H. Whitten Sr. and Bernadine "Bun" Whitten in Spokane, WA.

Whitty and the family moved to Colville, where he grew up with sisters Mary Jean Gray and Lucille Christian. After graduating with the class of '47 from Colville High School, he worked with his father in the service station industry. Whitty made the selfless decision to enlist in the Army during the Korean War, where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class, in a combat engineering unit until his discharge in 1952.

Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Colville, marrying Phyllis Floener, and the two would spend nearly 40 years together in marriage.  Phyllis and Whitty welcomed two children, Jeff and Camille into their lives. Whitty took over the service station business from his father and expanded operations before moving into petroleum distribution eventually serving as the president of the Washington State Oil Marketer's Association.  He was actively involved with community organizations like the J.C.'s, a past Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge, a charter member of the Benchwarmers, a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, the Eagles and the VFW, as well as being a long-time supporter of many local youth organizations and activities.

He loved playing card games with friends and family, "knock knock" and Texas Hold-Em, anytime and anyplace but especially at the family lake cabin on Sherry Lake. The only friends he didn't have were the people who had not met him yet.
