In Loving Memory Of

Carolyn Grace Hartill

Carolyn Grace Hartill passed away in her home in Chewelah, Washington, on Monday, January 23, 2023. Carolyn's life journey began when she was born to Evalyn Barry and Elbert Quincy on October 26, 1938 in Yakima, WA. She was raised with her step-sister Dorothy by her father Elbert Quincy and step-mother, Rose Quincy in Deer Park, WA. She met the love of her life at her family's church and a short while later eloped. Carolyn and Percy Hartill were married in 1955 and started the next chapter of their lives together in Chewelah.

A hard-working couple with a strong Christian faith, Carolyn and Percy grew their family with a daughter Marsha followed by two sons, Miles and Brian. Carolyn operated a dog grooming business out of her home in addition to managing a household, taking care of the horses and livestock while Percy worked their early years as a logger. Percy was given an opportunity to learn the electrical trade and received his Journeyman's while working for Colville Electric.  Percy continued logging on the weekends with his brother Bill until he was seriously injured in a logging accident. Carolyn spent 6 months by his side while in the hospital and many more months through his recovery at home.

After fully recovering, Percy and Carolyn together opened Percy's Electric. Percy performed all the electrical work and customer service, while Carolyn took care of all the book work, ordering, billing, and accounts receivable for the company. Carolyn was an active member of the Chewelah Independent Baptist Church. In the earlier years of the church under Pastor Merle Milner, Carolyn taught in the Awana Children's program. Carolyn later developed a passion for raising and showing top quality AKC toy poodles. After her three kids graduated high school, Carolyn became very involved in the dog show circuit, traveling from show to show. She finished several Champion Toy Poodles.

All three kids were involved with the Singing Spurs 4-H horse club and with school sports.  According to her kids, they always were on-time, had the cleanest uniforms, and their mom could always be found in the stands cheering them on.  Carolyn was a huge supporter of education and encouraged her kids and her grandkids to graduate high school and pursue their dreams. There is a hallway in her home that she proudly called her "Wall of Fame." The wall was decorated with the senior photos of all her grandchildren who graduated high school.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Percy Hartill, father Elbert Quincy, mother Evalyn Barry, step-mother Rose Quincy, her two half-brothers William Bonine and Francis Bonine, and her two half-sisters Shirley Hill and Marianne Kona. She is survived by her step sister Dorothy Grimm, her husband Neil of Deer Park, her half-sisters Dixie Daniels, Cheryl Watson, and Rebecka Howry, her daughter Marsha, her husband Wayne Ambacher, of Seward, Alaska, two sons Miles Hartill, his wife Kim and Brian Hartill, his wife Jennifer of Chewelah and 15 grandkids, 24 great grandkids, 6 great great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.
