Caroline Lois
Hensel
May 4, 1930 — Mar 10, 2025
Inchelium
Caroline Lois Hensel, age 94, a 24-year resident of the Inchelium, WA area, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Colville, WA. Caroline was born on May 4, 1930, in Seattle WA.
Caroline was raised on the family dairy farm in Auburn WA and assisted with the needs of the farm from a very early age. She graduated in 1950 from Auburn Adventist Academy and then continued her education at Walla Walla College. While there, she met David Hensel, and they were wed on May 30, 1954. They soon began a family, and Caroline turned her attention to the needs of the home. Shortly thereafter they moved to Dearborn MI where David was an engineer at Ford Motor Company, before returning to Enumclaw WA. From Enumclaw, the family accepted a call from the Seventh Day Adventist Church to go to South America in 1963, based in Montevideo Uruguay, where David served as a missionary pilot, and putting his skills as an engineer to work, arriving back in Auburn WA on her family in 1970. In 2000 they moved to Barnaby Creek near Inchelium WA which was home for them throughout retirement.
After a visit to Puerto Rico where she was able to ride one, Caroline developed a passion for raising, breeding, and showing Paso Fino horses. She would visit thrift stores in search of dolls which she would renew and redress with handmade clothes then send them to orphanages in Central America. Caroline was a devoted wife and dedicated mother. In retirement, she and David enjoyed traveling the world together, often in their Grey Hound bus that Dave had converted to a comfortable motor home. She even traveled to Cabo San Lucas and back as the passenger on their Harley Davidson motorcycle. Throughout her life, Caroline was actively involved in and a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband David Hensel on Aug. 6, 2013, and her younger brother Leon on September 23, 1936.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Schumacher (Brent) of Inchelium, WA; son, Ken Hensel (Tey) of Punta Gorda, FL; seven grandchildren, Chad, Colton, Luke and Tho Schumacher, Ellie Wahlman, Jason and Tonio Hensel; 3 great grandchildren, Aaron, Aidan and Bowen Schumacher; sister, Doreen Douglas of Auburn, WA; brother, Merlin Tupper (Juanita) of Monroe, WA; many nieces and nephews.
