In Loving Memory

Calvin Ortiz Estes

Calvin Ortiz Estes, age 92, a longtime Northport resident, went home to be with our lord and his angels on September 14, 2022. Calvin was born to Marshall and Iva (Hixson) Estes on February 11, 1930 in Blue Creek, Washington.

Calvin began his childhood in Blue creek before his family would relocate to Deep Creek early in his life, where he would remain for the rest of his childhood, going on to graduate from Northport High School. Calvin was drafted into the Army in 1951, going on to receive the Korean service medal with four bronze service stars and the purple heart, along with several other decorations and commendations after being injured by grenade fire in the line of duty during the Korean War. After returning home to Washington, Calvin would go on to drive oar truck and cut timber for many years. He married Marjorie Mae LeCaire with her son Duane Hokanson in the early 60s, and they would welcome two sons, Everett and Eugene.

Following Marjorie's unexpected passing in 1981, Calvin met Elizabeth "Betty" Rumsey, a fellow longtime resident of Northport, and the two would be wed in the mid 80's. Not only did Calvin have a new wife, he also gained five step-children- Leonard, Jeral, Diane, Gail, and Linda. Together, Calvin and Betty quickly became pillars of the Northport Community; Betty volunteered at the school district and on the PTO board for many years while Calvin continued to work at Fraizers mill.

As Calvin reached retirement, he was able to devote more time to his garden and yard work, Calvin was a quiet, gentle, kind man, and although he didn't have much to say at times, his family and friends knew that when he spoke, his words could carry great weight.

Calvin was preceded in death by his wives, Marjorie May (LeCaire) Estes, and Elizabeth "Betty" Wood (Rumsey) Estes; his brothers, Ivan, Orville, Vernell and sister, Viola; and his step-children, Marilyn, Jerry, and Ann. He is survived by his sons, Everett and Eugene Estes, and Duane (Marie) Hokanson; his sisters, Evelyn, Velma, Elva, and Lavonna; his caregiver of several years and stepdaughter, Diane Dolsman, along with stepchildren Leonard (Mary), Jeral, and Gail Braden, and Linda Welsh; and his granddaughter, Amy, along with numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Calvin Ortiz Estes will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 beginning at 11:00 am at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Washington, and a graveside service will be held at a later date.
