In Loving Memory
"Buster" Randall D. Hurt
"Buster" Randall David Hurt, age 61, passed away on October 14, 2023 in Chewelah, Washington. Randy was born on September 20, 1962 to Dennis and Dorothy (Miles) Hurt in Seattle, Washington.
From a very early age, Randy was different from other children. It was discovered that he had a rare genetic condition, which came to be known as Noonan Syndrome. Although this caused many difficulties throughout his life, and especially his childhood, Randy's diagnosis would bring his parents, sister, and himself closer to the Lord. The first Bible verse he memorized after receiving Christ at Vacation Bible School was Philippians 4:13.
"I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me." This Scripture became his lifetime motto to overcome many obstacles.
For much of his life, Randy would defy the expectations set forth by both medical professionals and society at large. His father, Dennis, would help establish Columbia River Christian Academy, and Randy completed high school through a self-paced program. He was loved by many fellow students, and was an inspiration and testimony of perseverance. Following high school, he worked at Fuhrman's Feed and Farm store. Another time he showed skill with welding training. Later he enjoyed employment at a college cafeteria. Wherever he was he found great satisfaction in genuinely loving people and cheerfully sharing the difference that Jesus made in his life.
Randy enjoyed being called Buster in later years. He settled in the Highlands Apartments in Colville, where he was frequently seen in his wheelchair on the corner with his cowboy hat and pipe, greeting passers-by with a smile. Despite increasingly impaired hands, he crocheted many bright and beautiful blankets which family and friends still enjoy. Buster was fiercely proud of his independence, always striving to make his own decisions and serve the Lord. His simple faith in Christ was a reminder to all that God loves us just as we are, and that many of the things this world sees as imperfections can be used to bring us closer to the Lord.
Buster was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dorothy Hurt.
He is survived by his father, Dennis; his sister, Keri (Richard) Nakamura; as well as five nieces and nephews, Alisha, Brandon, Hanna, Kayla, and Nathan Nakamura.
