In Loving Memory

Bobby Ken "Bob" Manus

Bob Manus passed away with his loving family by his side in Newport, WA on June 6, 2023. A longtime Chewelah Resident, Bob was born to Elijah William and Ruth (Martin) Manus in Littlefield, Texas on August 8, 1936.

When he left his family home, he went to log for his uncle, Quinton Manus, in Moyie Springs, Idaho.  At this time, he had also enlisted in the Army Reserve and National Guard.  It was during this time his cousin Pat introduced him to the love of his life Sharon Miller. He soon found out his parents were moving to Seaside, Oregon, where they had purchased a trout farm and wanted him to join them. Bob and Sharon were married Feb. 28, 1957 and moved to Seaside when they had their daughter LaDena.  From Seaside they moved to Millwood, WA, where Bob would be employed by the Papermill and be a volunteer firefighter. It was there when they were blessed with their sons Lance and Chad.

Bob was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in his younger years.  Eventually he and Sharon would be sealed in the church's Temple in Canada. Bob was always looking for wide open spaces, which led him to buy a 68-acre orchard in Greenbluff, WA. Working the orchard and also at the papermill made for long days. Then the worst winter hit in 1968 where they were snowed in for a week.  After that, he moved his family back to Spokane Valley, then on to Otis Orchards still looking for the place that felt like home. During this time, the papermill was striking, and it led him to work with his uncle at Manus Machinery. It was then he heard Alcoa was building up North by Chewelah. Wide open spaces…home.

In 1975, he relocated his family to Chewelah. He quickly began a career with the company in welding maintenance, a position he would hold until his retirement during the 1991 buyout. With retirement came more time to spend with Sharon and the rest of the family. Bob loved to go camping, his favorite place was Flodelle Creek Campground on Highway 20. His grandchildren, Cassandra and Lijah, loved fishing with him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Ruth Manus, and his brother, Gary Manus.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sharon Manus of Newport; his Children, LaDena (Duane) Davidson of Spokane Valley, Lance (Vickie) Manus of Chewelah, and Chad Manus of Colville; his grandchildren, LaShara, Leslie, Cassandra, Lijah, Amber and Kenny; as well as multiple great-grands.

A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Chewelah American Legion Hall on Friday, June 23, at 11:00.  Bob was laid to rest in the cremation wall at Chewelah Memorial Park Cemetery.  Please visit the online memorial and sign the guest book at www.danekasfuneralchaapel.com.
