In Loving Memory
Beverly Jean (Walker) Kautenberger
Beverly Jean (Walker) Kautenberger was born on November 25, 1926 and passed away on September 7, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah Washington.
Beverly is the daughter of Glen and Vivian (Adkins) Walker and was born in Sidney Montana. Bev was raised on a farm along with her brothers, Lynn and Glen Jr who have both preceded her in death. She has numerous nieces and nephews.
Bev graduated from Richey High School in 1944 as a First Honors Graduate. She finished high school early and missed giving the graduation speech due to her new job commitment during the war. Throughout her life she embodied the class motto "Go Forth and Serve".
While attending Richey Elementary Bev began a lifelong pen pal relationship with Katherine (Williams) Tiplady from England. Bev and Kath finally met in 1983 when Kath journeyed to Chewelah.
Bev met her husband Verne Kautenberger in high school. They were married February 4, 1945 and celebrated 62 years of marriage. After Verne completed his military service the family moved to Colville and eventually settled in Chewelah in 1960.
During her life Bev was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church, Women of the ELCA, American Legion Auxiliary Post #54, and the Chewelah Food bank. Bev was a hard worker raising the family on the farm and all that farm life entails. She also worked outside the home for the Chewelah Independent and the Chewelah School District as a secretary.
Bev's children are Rod (Vicki) Kautenberger, Vicki (Al) Falkner, Brenda (Jim) Gregerson and Pam (Roy) Henley. She has 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bev is preceded in death by her husband Verne and great-grandson Matthew Care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chewelah on Saturday, October 1, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Chewelah Food Bank or St Paul Lutheran Church.
