Obituary

Betty J. Jolley-Lindman, a longtime Colville resident, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022 in Colville at the age of 98.   Born on December 24, 1923 in Kingston, WA to Frank and Ida Erlandson Longmate, she was fourth of six children raised on a farm in South Kingston.  Betty graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1942.  After graduation she worked at the Naval Base in Keyport, WA.

On November 19, 1946, Betty married William (Bill) Jolley in Reno, NV.  They made their home in San Francisco where Bill was stationed as a Merchant Marine until August of 1950 when they purchased a small farm in Colville.  It was there they raised their three children Christine, Vaughn and Susan and years later, grandson Paul.  When the children were all in school, Betty went to work for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.  She enjoyed her time meeting and helping the farmers in Stevens County get the services needed to keep their small family farms thriving.

Betty retired in 1986 after working for the Federal Government for 20 years.  Her hobbies included oil painting, gardening, ceramics, playing cards and cribbage.  Her husband Bill passed away in 1987.

On September 21 st , 1991, Betty married Walt Lindman of Colville.  They enjoyed traveling and being active community members with several organizations.

Betty kept busy being a member of Kiwanis International (25 yrs), Mt. Carmel Hospital Auxiliary (30 yrs), First Congregational Church (UCC), LNO, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and many other local organizations. Her church family was extra special to her and enjoyed worshipping with the congregation.  She always looked forward to making Christmas wreaths with the Hospital Auxiliary, the "Read Across America" project and helping with the adopted Christmas family and the annual BBQ with the Kiwanis.

Family was very important to Betty, her generous spirit, gentle kindness and inspiring perseverance is an example for us all.  Betty was "Grandma" to many and will always be remembered for her welcoming nature to sit at the kitchen table for some chocolate chips cookies.  No one left without a handful to go! She loved walking her property with her faithful lab Nicki who was her constant companion. After Walt's passing in 2010, Betty lived independently at the family farm until 2018 when she moved to assisted living at Buena Vista Healthcare.  There she made many new friends and was loved by all.  She was assisted in keeping her independence and excellent care was given when needed.

Betty is survived by her daughter Susan Smith and husband Jim, grandson Paul Staeheli and wife Kelsie, grandson Jeff Nelson and wife Holly. great grand-daughter Tiara Cox and husband Casey, great-grandson Bill (Jayme) Staeheli, great-grandson Logan Nelson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of longtime friends.

Betty was also blessed to be survived by numerous extended family members.  She loved each and every one as her own.  Know that you made her life full and complete by the love each of you shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Bill and Walt, daughter Christine and son-in-law Ed, son Vaughn, brothers, Leroy, John, Elmer, Bill and sister, Loretta Morey.

Betty's family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to the staff of Buena Vista Healthcare and all who cared for her.  Your love, compassion and empathy cannot be overstated.  We will always be grateful and the staff will be close to our hearts.
