Betty Sharon Hoaglan

Betty Sharon Hoaglan (Gilliam), 81, of Spokane, Washington, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2023 at Hospice House of Spokane. Betty was born on March 27, 1942 in Walla Walla, Washington to Otis Bliss Gilliam and Elsie (Schram) Gilliam.

She graduated from high school in Seattle, Washington, and married James Raymond Hoaglan shortly after.

Betty lived in Woodinville, Washington with James and their children. She played piano for church, taught Sunday School and acted as den mother in the boy scouts. In 1979 Betty and her family moved to Chewelah, Washington, where she played piano and organ at the Chewelah Assembly of God church, and taught Sunday School classes. Betty was also known for her talent of baking and decorating beautiful and creative cakes.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Hoaglan (1987), her sister Patricia Russel, and brothers Lewis Hartwig, Rich Hartwig and Don Hartwig.

Betty is survived by her sister Carol and her husband Paul, her son Thomas and his wife Sarah, her daughter Sandee, and her son Jeremy and his wife Mary. She has seven grandchildren, Jane, Jackie, Yarrow, William, Jessica, Elijah and Isaiah, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11:00a.m. Friday, July 28, 2023 at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah, Washington. Anyone wishing to donate in memoriam to Betty may do so at Second Harvest Food Bank in Spokane, Washington, or at the Chewelah Food Bank.
