Betty Louise Belling, age 90, a 51-year resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on June 1, 2024 in Colville, WA.  Betty was born on April 2, 1934 in Coleman, ID the daughter of Edward R. and Ida L. (Brown) Haugen.

Betty was raised in Newport, WA.  She married Alvin Umbarger and they began a family. Betty worked in the home and their marriage later dissolved.  She met Darold "Dee" Knox through square dancing and their friendship led to the exchanging of vows. They lived Clarkston WA. Betty continued to work in the home as their family grew.  In 1973, Betty and Darold moved their family to Chewelah, WA. where she opened their home and provided day-care for several families.  In 1984, Darold passed away suddenly.  Betty remained in Chewelah  and worked at a local bakery as well as the Dash-In. She later met Stewart Belling through square dancing and their friendship grew.  Betty accepted Stu's proposal and they were married in 1989.  They continued square dancing until 2020.  Betty and Stu have resided in Chewelah and enjoyed hosting holidays and family gathering throughout the years.

Betty was actively involved in the Lutheran Church and served on several committees.  She loved to share stories and updates of her children and grandchildren's lives to anyone willing to listen.  She was fiercely independent and often a bit on the stubborn side.  She loved to be involved in the lives of her grandchildren and watch them grow.  Betty baked many wonderful desserts and Christmas popcorn cakes which she generously shared with family, church members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Edward and Ida, husband, Dee Knox, three sons, Kenny, Allan and Rob; and all of her 10 siblings, Dave, Bob, Don, Ed, Dell, Gordon, Helen, Carol, Judy and Sharon.

Betty is survived by her husband, Stewart "Stu" Belling at the home; daughter, D'Anne McClellan of Colville, WA; nine grandchildren, Cody (KC) Hastings, Kelsey (Jacob), Kari (Zyah), Kyle (Olivia),  and Connor McClellan, Brandy (Brandon),  Hofstee, Heather Hubbart, Robbie (Britney), Umbarger, Crystal Umbarger.  Her great grandchildren are Teagan Hastings, Tymbur Hastings, Madi Hofstee, Mari (Jeremy)MacDonald, Chance Hubbart, Luke Hubbart, Brawk Umbarger, Keria Umbarger, William Umbarger. And one great, great grandson, Kasen MacDonald. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Betty Belling will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville, WA.  Betty will be laid to rest at the Chewelah Memorial Park Cemetery in Chewelah, WA.  Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in either Colville or Chewelah, WA.  Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com.  Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements.
