In Loving Memory

Beryl Laurence Abbott

Beryl Laurence Abbott, a 24-year area resident, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022 in Colville, WA.  He was born in Mountain View, CA on June 4, 1932 to Guy and Berna (Anderson) Abbott.

Beryl was the fourth of seven children, and the first of two children born that day (twin sister Berna followed shortly after). His father was a property developer and had died suddenly before the twins were born.  His mother remarried some time after, and together they welcomed two more children.  The family spent time in Oceanside, Angwin, Napa and Modoc County, California.  In 1952, during his senior year of high school, Beryl or "Red" as he was known, was drafted into the US Army.  He served as a Med Tech in the 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in November of 1954.

Upon returning home to Angwin CA, he reunited with his sweetheart Estelle, who was a good friend of his twin sister.  The two would later get married on December 20, 1955 in Angwin, CA.  Red and Estelle welcomed 4 children into their lives, Daniel, David, Julie and Douglas. They moved to Napa, CA where they remained for many years. Red worked for the State Hospital as a psychiatric technician and would also do construction work on the side. The family enjoyed taking trips to the National Parks, trips up the 101 Coastal Highway, and even a trip to Expo 74' in Spokane. As the children left the nest, Red and Estelle did a lot of travelling to destinations in China, Europe and Russia.  He had a strong faith and their missionary trip to Russia was to help build a church.

When Beryl and Estelle retired, Beryl's good friend, Dennis whom he had known from nursing school, had property in Inchelium, WA and after some talk and a few visits, they decided to purchase property there themselves.  In 1998, they packed up and moved into an apartment above their shop while Red helped build Estelle's dream log home. In 2009, Beryl's twin sister Berna, came to live in the apartment above the shop. They loved taking trips to see their children and grandchildren. One such trip, they rented an RV and drove it cross-country to see their grandson, Nathan, graduate from Ranger School in Fort Benning, GA. Red and Estelle celebrated over 60 years of marriage together. Sadly, Estelle had developed Alzheimer's and went missing 5 years ago during a walk with their dog. Beryl was a very giving, big hearted, loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed and loved by those that knew him best.

Beryl was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Berna; wife, Estelle; son, Douglas; brothers, Lloyd, Dale, Bruce and Ed.  He is survived by his children, Daniel (Alisa) Abbott, David Abbott, Julie Abbott; sisters, Berna Abbott, Dorothy Walker; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
