Obituary

Arthur Richard "Rick" Taylor was born in Rifle, CO on January 25th, 1946 to Gerald Lee and Laura Isabel (Harding) Taylor. He passed away at his residence in Addy, WA in the early morning of May 30th, at 78 years old.

He moved around in his youth, spending his formative years in Colorado, Arkansas, and ultimately Oregon. He spent his high school years in Fruta, CO and then Prineville, OR. He was a man of his time, a jack of all trades. He worked in many industries, and trades throughout his life. Most of his time, both personally and professionally, in the woods in all manner of roles in the logging industry; mostly known for his expertise at felling trees.

He moved to northeastern Washington in the late 1960's where he settled in Chewelah and met his wife Kathleen H. Graham of Addy. They had two sons, Richard "Ricky" and Julian "JJ" in 1972 and 1975. In August of 1977 the purchased their home in Addy where they remained.

He was an avid musician, playing all over the Pacific Northwest. He filled his home, and too many taverns and venues to count over his long guitar playing and singing career. The only pursuit that he enjoyed more than music was being in the outdoors. A superb fisherman, he taught countless people to fly fish and spread his love for the sport; and sharing his favorite fly patterns including his famous "Taylor Leech" his own pattern design. He was a passionate hunter and passed on that love to many as well.

During his life Rick affected many lives positively. It was said recently that "The love he gave was free and he gave it forever and never took it back", perfectly summing up the man he was. From the large family he was raised in, his own family, to everyone that had the pleasure to spend time with him; he influenced countless people. He was kind, jovial, and generous beyond measure. He taught generations resourcefulness and morality with his loving and patient attention. Rick found it a true joy to not only share but pass on his passions and skills to people around him. His door was always open, "coffee is always on", and many people took him up on that offer.

Rick will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife "Kathy", his sons Rick and Julian, seven grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 3 brothers. He is now in heaven with his mother, brothers and sister, and first-born great grandson. A memorial service is being planned, and details will be released soon.
