Arthur "Dave" Ottis Hegney

Arthur "Dave" Ottis Hegney, a longtime Colville resident, passed away on January 14, 2022 with his loving family by his side.  He was born in Fargo, ND on May 31, 1930 to Ottis and Minnie (Jantz) Hegney.

Dave lived with his grandparents in McClusky, ND until he was about 5 years old.  His father then remarried and they moved to Montana where Dave's sisters Alice and Esther were born. After moving to the Colville area, brothers Raymond and Clifford and his baby sister Phyllis were born.

Dave married Emma Barden in 1953 and had nine children before separating in 1965.  He reconnected with his childhood sweetheart, Sylvia Chapman and they began to date.  Dating led to courtship and finally marriage on November 20, 1969.  With the joining of their hands, their family grew to consist of thirteen children.  Dave and Sylvia bought 40 acres of property just east of town where they began to build their home.  Once the basement was built, they lived in it until the house was complete.  Dave loved the outdoors and enjoyed working as a logger for the majority of his adult life along with working his small family farm. He often worked from before dawn to after dark to support his family.

Dave and Sylvia enjoyed gardening together; harvesting their fruits and vegetables, caring for the animals on their farm and going to local dances.  He was never afraid of a hard day's work, but Dave loved to sit and watch the many types of birds that visited his bird feeders.  Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids whenever he could. Dave will always be remembered as a solid and reliable man that was deeply caring and compassionate, he will be greatly missed.

Dave was preceded in death by two children, Jessica and Alisa; stepdaughter, Carol Anderson.  He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia; sisters Alice, Esther and Phyllis, brothers Raymond and Clifford; children Belinda, Les, Marshall, Robin, Russell, Tracy, Kasey; stepchildren, Dale, Don, Hank, and Victoria; 52 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Dave Hegney were held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville with interment following at Mountain View Park Cemetery. Pastor Shane Moffitt officiated.
