ARDITH KATHRYN SPEEGLE
Ardith Kathryn Speegle, age 81, a longtime resident of Colville, WA passed away on March 2, 2022, in Colville. Ardith was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Colville, the daughter of Darcy Arden and Nellie (Jackson) Scroggs.
Ardith was raised in Colville and graduated as a 12-year senior, Class of 1958. She met Edwin Randolph Read, who was stationed at the 760th Radar Base near Colville. They married and moved to Spokane where they resided in the Brown's Addition while Ardith continued her education at the Glen Dow School of Beauty graduating as a cosmetologist. Soon their family began, and once available, they moved into the base housing at Fairchild Air Force Base. Ardith enjoyed cutting and styling hair for the enlisted men's wives in her home while raising her growing family. Over the course of many years and during the multiple deployments of her husband, Ardith would return home to Colville with her children. During that time, they also resided in Denver, CO, Fort Bliss, TX, and Duluth, MN. Ardith had enormous inner strength as she raised her four children. She continued her work as a cosmetologist in her home. She worked for Stevens County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher, The National Forest service on a crew that would thin and plant trees, clear brush and survey forest land, and over 20 years for Safeway in produce. Following her retirement from Safeway, Ardith pulled roots and traveled for two years with longtime friend and companion David Rogne. They settled in Bridgeport for many years where they owned and operated the local Nell's Restaurant, the local laundromat, RV Park, automotive store and multiple rentals. She retired for a second time in 2003. Ardith married David Rogne and has resided in Colville since that time.
Ardith also gave what she had in time and resource to help friends and neighbors as well as community families in need. She often cooked multiple turkey dinners and provided Christmas gifts to be enjoyed during the holiday season at the homes of those not able to provide for these treasures. Her call-to-behave could be heard for multiple blocks in effort to reach her children no matter the neighborhood back yard they were playing in. She loved the outdoors and natures little creatures that visited such as the many quail she watched over throughout the years. Known for her holiday candies, cooking and pies, her treats and baked goods delighted the palates of all ages. Her pastimes and passion were cooking, huckleberry picking and cutting firewood. She enjoyed the fruits of these labors, a warm home and a pause to enjoyed nature's own candy. Ardith offered her grandchildren an open home, her huge heart, warm cups of sweetened coffee and hours of the Price is Right over the many years she cared for them and watched them grow. Holiday dinners were always the best. There was always a house full of friends and family and lots of good times and food. She loved her family, treasured her friend and had faith in God. She will live in the hearts and minds of those she leaves behind. She will truly be missed.
Ardith was preceded in death by her husband, David; daughter, Tini Ross; two brothers, Joe & Bud Scroggs and her parents.
She is survived by her 3 children, Toni Lundquist (Ron) of Addy, WA, Susan Sloan (Brad) of Omak, WA, Randy Read of Colville, WA; grandchildren, Angela, Darcy, Ben, Josee, Bob, Jonathon and Josaya; several great grandchildren, youngest being Finn and Jett Tareski.
