Colville
In Loving Memory
Angeline Kaye "Angie" Sumner
Angeline Kaye Sumner, known as Angie to most, passed away July 13, 2023 in Colville, Washington. Angie was born October 22, 1939 in Nespelem, Washington to Harry and Faye (Duffy) Martin.
After growing up between Electric City and Nespelem, Angie moved to Curlew in her senior year of high school. She graduated from Republic High School in 1957. After graduation, Angie worked as a waitress; then as a live-in babysitter. In 1960, Angie married the love of her life, Joseph (Joe) Sumner; a union of 21 years. They raised 4 children in Curlew, Kettle Falls, Hoquiam and Colville, Washington. Their first daughter passed away at 3 weeks old.
Angie worked as a bartender/cocktail waitress for most of her life, but also worked in a mill, a nursing home, and a gas station. She was a member of the Eagles lodge for 49 years.
Family meant the most to Angie, and she loved her holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas at "Grandma Angie's" will forever be a part of her local grandchildren's memories of her. She only wore Christmas sweatshirts for the whole month of December every year. She also made a LOT of birthday cakes.
Angie was an avid bull riding and Nascar fan –"Go, Jeff Gordon!" She had two favorite dogs over the years: a dachshund named Mr. Harlow Baines Fugum, and a Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix named Mitzi.
Angie lived a busy and exciting life. She and Joe were members of a motorcycle club in Hoquiam, WA. She also participated in bowling, pool, and darts – and won or earned trophies for all of those. Angie also loved to travel. She went to western Washington several times to visit son Marv; as well as to Texas several times to visit son Greg and his family. She also travelled to Nevada with friends multiple times to gamble.
Angie was preceded in death by both of her parents, sister Alice May Davidson, brother Fredrick Howard "Rick" Martin, baby daughter Josephine Marie Sumner – known as "Jody;" and several very close friends.
Angie is survived by two sons, Marv Sumner of Colville, WA and Greg (Jeanann) Sumner of Elkhart, TX; daughter Sandy (Keith) Powell of Colville, WA; honorary son Russ (Suzette) Hegney of Colville, WA; sister Joyce Gregory of Keller, WA; 7 grandchildren; at least 19 great grandchildren; and nieces/nephews too numerous to count – nephew Dan Stillings was very close. Local grandchildren that were able to get to know her well include Eric (Trisha), Tim (Keirra), and Dakota (Tia); local great grandchildren include Sireena, Nykiah, Myles, Inara, and Scarlett. Grandchildren that live far away are Christopher, Megan, Jacy, and Ashley; as well as their children. Although she didn't get to see them much, Angie loved them immensely and spoke of them often.
Visitation/viewing to say goodbye to Angie will be available at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, WA on Friday July 21, 2023 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; on Saturday July 22, 2023 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm; and on Wednesday and Thursday July 26 and 27, 2023 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held at Danekas Funeral Chapel on Monday August 7, 2023 at 11:00 am. Please visit the online memorial website and sign her guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. A private burial service will follow at the Keller Cemetery in Keller, WA at a later date.
