Life Legacy
James "Jim" G. Reynolds, a 44 year resident of Colville, WA passed away on May 16, 2012 in Stanwood, WA. Jim was born on March 12, 1916 in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada, the youngest of six children to Rupert Victor and Edith
(Bates) Goodearl.
Shortly after his birth, he was Christened "Donald Rupert Goodearl." He was adopted three months later by James and Charlotte Reynolds and brought to
the U.S. where he was given the name of James Goodearl Reynolds. The
Reynolds family moved between several communities as they followed work
opportunities. They settled in Cedonia, WA, on Harvey Creek, where Jim
finished grade school at the Mountain View School and was a 1934 graduate of
Columbia High School in Hunters, WA. Following high school, Jim moved to
Yakama, WA where he worked as a carpenter. In 1936, after a debilitating
heart attack suffered by his father, Jim received a call to return home and
take over the farm. On April 8, 1938 they also assumed ownership and
management of the Gifford Store and Service Station, which they ran for 22
years. In 1942 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Europe until he
was honorably discharged in1945.
After the war, Jim met Sylvia Just, daughter of Paul and Clara Just of
Colville, and they married on September 19, 1948. Together they raised their
three children, Lynda, Patricia and Craig. Jim leased out the Gifford Store
and Service Station in the summer of 1960, to work at missile sites near
Odessa, WA. Afterwards, Jim found employment at Van Stone Mine and worked there until its close. He moved his family to Colville in August of 1967, and joined Vaagen Brothers as a Welder and Millwright, working there until his retirement in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia on March 5, 1995 following a battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Diabetes.
Jim is survived by his two daughters, Lynda Sheets and husband, Michael, Spokane, WA, Patricia Dawson and husband, Victor, Stanwood, WA; one son, Craig Reynolds, Colville, WA; grandchildren: Mastery, Mercia, Micah and
Mariel Sheets; Nathaniel Williams; Leah Davy; great grandchildren: Jordan
Sheets, Mya Renee Bergesen and Thomas William James Davy.
The memorial service for Mr. James G. Reynolds will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Colville Church of God, 760 E. Columbia,
Colville, WA. Please join Jim's family for the potluck following the
memorial service. An ash committal will conclude the Saturday services at
1:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Memorial
contributions may be given to Alzheimer's Disease research or Diabetes
