Life Legacy
Dorotha F. Knapp, a thirty-seven year resident of Colville, passed away in Colville on December 23, 2011 at the age of 91. She was born February 29, 1920 in Milner, North Dakota, one of twelve children of Ed and Myrtle Wisbey.
She grew up in Ethel, Wa, and graduated in 1938 from the Auburn Adventist Academy. She lived and worked in the Seattle area for the following four years. Dorotha married Gerald E. Knapp on April 16, 1942 in Jackson Prairie, Washington near Chehalis. They were both elementary teachers and, over the years, they lived and taught in Wapato, Goldendale, Spangle, and Tonasket. She had earned a Bachelors Degree in Education at Walla Walla College. They moved to Colville in 1974 and continued teaching at the Colville Valley Seventh Day Adventist School for six years before their retirement. Gerald, preceded her in death in 1995. She was very active in the Colville Seventh Day Adventist Church and was the director of the church’s Colville Community Service Center for many years in addition to gardening and quilting when time allowed.
Dorotha is survived by her daughter, Mary Ratcliff and husband, Nick, of Kettle Falls, WA; sons Ed Knapp of Denver, CO and Ray Knapp and wife, Harla, of Littleton, CO; sisters Della Holisfield and husband, Jack, Moss Point, MS and Donna Miller of Hermosa, SD; brothers Don Wisbey of Washougal, WA and Delbert Wisbey and wife , Betty, of Roseburg, OR; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers and three sisters.
